Colin’s musical heritage takes in the love of a wide range of musical tastes including the harmony guitar sounds from artists as diverse as Wishbone Ash and Thin Lizzy through to the irresistible grooves of Quo.
He has played around London and Essex for a number of years at venues like The Rock Garden, Ronnie Scott’s, The Greyhound, on one occasion being supported by “The Bard of Barking” himself, Billy Bragg.
His former bands include Filthy Rich, Wally Met Wilf and others. He has also been playing with the reformed Paragon. Always keen to put on a good show, he used to sport very long hair, Viva Zapata moustache, yellow and green striped jacket, along with plastic burgundy trousers.
“My favourite players include Gary Moore, Andy Powell (Wishbone Ash) and Rick Parfitt. Two guitarists who do not enjoy anything like the recognition they deserve are Ian Bairnson (Alan Parsons Project) and Bill Nelson.”
When Colin went along to play with The Late Shift for the first time he didn’t think the band would choose him, whilst the rest of the members were worried he wouldn’t join. Thankfully this was soon put to rights and the band gained a valuable new member as a consequence.
Colin’s musical tastes continue to develop and he is a big fan of current bands like Coldplay. “I’m also very interested in recording and enjoy the experience of mixing and production as well as playing” says Colin.
His current equipment includes a 1979 Anniversary USA Fender Stratocaster he has owned from new and a USA Fender telecaster (a surpise Christmas present from the family!). He is a big fan of boutique Guitar maker Tokai and owns a Japanese 1980 Love Rock model. Amplification is provided by Marshall JVM and Colin uses a range of vintage effects pedals and a TC Electronics Nova System through a Gigrig G2.
Colin took up the Musical Directors job in TLS since Paul left the band in 2007
