The Late Shift welcomes Neil Lewin on Bass.
In his own words…
I was introduced to music at a young age by my Dad. Every Sunday morning the house would be filled with the smell of a roast dinner and the sounds of the 60’s and 70’s coming from the turntable, but it wasn’t until I was about 18 that I decided to buy a bass and teach myself the art of playing the low notes. I joined my first band around the late 90’s and have pretty much been in bands constantly since then.
There have been quite a few highlights from my time playing but one of my most memorable times would have to be playing the Cavern Club in Liverpool with my band at the time (Neat) and having a Japanese tourist up the front waving one of our CD’s at us as we played to a room packed full of people (maybe he wanted his money back..?)
Another unforgettable moment was again with Neat, playing a mini tour of the Isle of Man – the bar was full to capacity and everyone in there was right up at the front of the stage singing and dancing, when out of nowhere emerged an old guy dressed as Elvis in a white jump suit, with a quiff and sideburns, Cuban heels and shades. The crowd parted as he done his best Elvis moves…and after he slipped and landed face first on the beer soaked tiles he gradually disappeared from sight as the boogying mass carried on around him. Needless to say we played on while struggling to stifle our laughter but Elvis eventually left the building in an awaiting ambulance.
More recently I’ve had the pleasure of being in some bands with my wife Samantha, who also sings for the Late Shift.
I play a Fender Precision bass through an Ashdown Mag head and 1×15” and 4×10” cabs. My biggest influence is the late John Entwistle.
